Wine Dinner Thurs. Oct. 27: The story behind the strange-shaped Travaglini bottle

Whenever she travels to promote awareness of her family’s wines, one of the first things that people ask Cinzia Travaglini (above, photo by Charles Scicolone, NYC) is what’s the story behind the strange-shaped bottle that the Travaglini winery uses?

“It was designed by my father in 1958,” as she told leading U.S. wine blogger and wine writer Joe Roberts a few years ago, “It is because the wines have such a long life; the bottle is like a decanter, to protect it from sediment when you pour the older wines.”

On Thursday, October 27 at Siena Ristorante Toscana, Cinzia will be demonstrating how to use the bottle as a “decanter” when we taste her family’s 2010 riserva.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to meet and taste with Cinzia, one of Italy’s top vintners and one of the most dynamic winemakers working today.
