Harvest in Italy is coming to a close…
We just had to share the above photo, borrowed from a friend’s blog. It’s an image of some of the last grapes being picked in Piedmont, where harvest is about to end.
Here at Siena, Tuscan and Californian wines are our focus.
But we also have an ample selection of wines from the other great producer of red wines in Italy: Piedmont, where Barolo and Barbaresco are produced, as well as Barbera and Dolcetto.
Over all, prolonged heat during the summer and extended drought (sounds like Texas, doesn’t it?) have led to a decrease in wine production this year.
But winemakers from Piedmont to Tuscany (where harvest ended this week) are telling us that they expect quality to be high (even though volume is much lower than 2011 or 2008).
