Stan’s wine of the week: Ferrari Carano Siena 2009

Ferrari Carano Siena 2009
Ferrari Carano Winery lies at the Northern end of Sonoma’s famous Dry Creek Valley. It is my favorite area of the California wine country to visit. Many fabulous wines come from these beautiful hills, but no winery is more visually spectacular to arrive at than Ferrari Carano, a stunning Italian Villa surrounding by world class gardens and vineyards. And they make great wine! In a nod to their Italian heritage, Ferrari Carano produces their version of a Super Tuscan wine, appropriately called Siena. What a great name! Naturally we pour it by the glass. It is a blend of about 75% Sangiovese (the principal grape in Chianti) with 25% Malbec. The resulting wine is richer and softer than it’s European counterparts and a very versatile accompaniment to many of our pastas and poultry and pork dishes.
Ferrari Carano Siena at Siena Restaurant is featured for $11.50 per glass or $42 per bottle.
