Owner Stan Adam’s wine pick of the week: Avignonesi Rosso 2008
Avignonesi Rosso is always one of the most popular wines at each week at Siena.
The Avignonesi Winery is located in a beautiful valley in Southern Tuscany, near the historic hill top wine town of Montepulciano and not far from Cortona, made famous in the book “Under The Tuscan Sun.”
It is a a richly layered blend of nearly equal parts of Prugnolo Gentile (a famous local clone of Sangiovese), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
Aged for 9 months in large barriques and small barrels, it offers an amazing value in a very modern style Tuscan wine that is very approachable and enjoyable on its own, yet will stand up to any dish.
Surrounded by rolling vineyards and fertile farmland, Avignonesi also has a fabulous restaurant and makes a great stop when traveling through Tuscany.
At Siena, Avignonesi Rosso is served for $9.50 per glass or $38 a bottle.
